Native title: 자작나무 숲

Translated title: Birch Forest

Author: In-sook, Kim

Genre: Horror

Year: 2025 | Pages: 384 | Origin: KOR | BA Seq Num: 91644

'Who would believe that a garbage house contains only garbage and no secrets?' Surrounded by all manner of terrible secrets, the countless bones buried beneath the privet tree in a garbage house contain shame and resentment. 'Birch Forest' is a newly expanded novel based on the short story of the same name published in 2022.

The story begins with the strange death of an elderly woman who collected trash. 'San 1-beonji' was once the wealthiest house in Gokgyo-dong. The house, which occupied the 'largest house and a very large piece of land' in the area, was the owner of 'that house'. However, the old man, who had spent his life collecting trash, eventually succumbs to a collapsed pile of trash.

To recover the body, the trash that had served as pillars supporting 'that house' must first be exposed. However, what the special cleaning company discovered while disposing of the waste was not the old man's remains, but rather a skeleton that could not be distinguished as either 'dog bones' or 'human bones', and another 'living skeleton' whose identity could not be determined.

However, what is truly extracted from 'that house', which has become 'a giant graveyard or cemetery of garbage', are not the 'bones' but the 'secrets' and 'stories' entangled with those bones. Secrets are never disposed of. Even if they become trash, they are piled up somewhere. Even if they rot, stink, and attract insects, they never completely disappear. Therefore, what is revealed when 'the fragments of stories that were precariously piled up suddenly crumble' is 'truth and sincerity'. It is the true story, overshadowed by the scent of countless suspicions and suspicions

Author: Yoon-gil, Lee

Genre: Family Saga / Social Novel

Year: 2026 | Pages: 304 | Origin: KOR | BA Seq Num: 91650

'Busan Man, Nam Gi-muk' is a maritime novel that follows the life of a Busan native who has lived alongside the sea. Nam Gi-muk, who grew up in the docks, breakwaters, and narrow alleys permeated by the salty wind, abandons a stable job on land and chooses the sea.

He is not a hero who braves the waves, but a worker on a deep-sea fishing boat, silently enduring the wear and tear of his body during repeated voyages. His days are a simple repetition of departure, fishing, and anchoring, but within that simplicity lies a layer of ineffable emotions and the remnants of choices.

Life on the sea is always a fraction of a second from death, and even survival is less a choice and more a coincidence. This novel portrays the sea not as a romantic but as a living reality, not as a memory but as a weight of the present tense. The sea becomes a question, not a consolation, and silence becomes a means of survival, not an avoidance
